How to Host a Jim Chesnut House Concert

The first thing that is required is a passion for live music. House Concerts provide an intimate setting for the performer and audience to connect in a very personal way.

Then you need some space to seat 20 to 30 people or more and table space for the food they bring to share. House Concerts generally include potluck meals that provide the social setting for people to meet new people and visit with those whom they already know.

You also need to know 30 to 50 people to invite in  order to have 20 to 30 people attend the event. If you can provide email addresses to us, we can distribute materials such as a program guide that gives Jim's background, map to your location, and written directions to your location to help build interest in the event.

We will supply all sound equipment if it is needed. Most homes will not require it, but if the House Concert is hosted in another space (such as a Fellowship Hall shown here) some amplification will be required.

You will need someone to help check in people at the door, receive payment and make change. You will also need someone to help set out napkins, cups, plasticware, etc. and to help pick up after your guests are gone.

You will need some cash to make change for those who don't bring the exact amount. We will supply $100 in ones and fives, but need to get it back at the end of the evening in addition to the performer's share the proceeds from ticket sales. For those who don't have cash, have them make their checks payable to Chesnut Productions. We don't accept credit cards at this time. It's important to note that rates of admission are merely suggested donations. If someone is unable to pay the suggested amount, we will accept what they can pay. We want all to enjoy the music regardless of their ability to pay.

You will need to decide how much to charge your guests.  We suggest $15 per person at the door and $12 per person for those who make reservations in advance if you think your friends and associates can afford it. We provide a website where people can register in advance and pay by credit card online.

We are flexible regarding our share of the gate receipts. In some cases our hosts do not want a share of the donations. In others, a charity might be involved. In some, an amount may be held back to cover food and beverage or promotional expenses. We will work with you to make the event a win-win for everyone involved.

We will also need some space to display and sell Jim's CDs. All proceeds from the sale of his merchandise will go to him. He will be responsible for the payment of all sales taxes that may be owed on the sale of his CDs.
